3. Association member organizations
Vietnam garment manufacturers association has almost 1000 participants, including persons, enterprises, and local and international partner agencies, after 20 years of development. Besides, VITAS has a total of 07 local branches across the country. From 6 congress meetings, in the 6th term from 2020 to 2025, the VITAS Executive Committee consists of 96 participants from national textile and apparel businesses. TÜV Rheinland and the garment manufacturers association in Vietnam collaborated to host the seminar “Brands’ requirements for textile supply chain” with over 40 participants in September 2017 to help businesses in the textile and garment industry keep updating necessary information on international brands according to the Detox campaign.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai, Deputy Secretary-General of VITAS, stated in the seminar that the most important aspect of keeping the living space clean, green, and beautiful is the mix of economic growth and environmental conservation. The companies must maintain ecological stability and reduce environmental damage, as well as utilize and conserve natural resources. In 2013, Greenpeace started the Detox campaign, in which several fashion firms agreed to stop releasing dangerous chemicals into rivers as a consequence of their clothing production. This seminar was aim to share and recommend collaboration for implementing a strategy to create supporting industries in the southern area.
Mr. Hoang Ba Son, Acting Director of IDCS, spoke at the meeting about the Center’s programs to be applied in the Southern region in 2022.
